Announcing the 2004 Oregon Coast Cycling Festival

Mark your calendars and tell your friends, the 2004 Oregon Coast Cycling
Festival is September 11, 2004 in Gold Beach, Oregon

Visit http://www.oregoncoastcyclingfestival.com for details, photos, maps,
entry forms, and more!

Come to the awe-inspiring Southern Oregon Coast for a Celebration of Cycling
in one of the world's most beautiful locales. Three separate fully supported
routes with numerous rest stop/checkpoints. Ride beside the Pacific Ocean,
past cascading waterfalls, across historic bridges, along the mighty Rogue
River, and next to miles of pristine beaches. All of the net proceeds of the
Festival benefit the American Heart Association and the Curry Health
Foundation.

The courses are:
* The Quarter-Century River Route, which takes you along the Wild and Scenic
Rogue River over two historic bridges. This 26-mile route is relatively flat
with a few rolling hills.
* The Metric Century, which takes the River Route and adds in a loop through
picturesque Squaw Valley and the historic Old Coast Highway along the Pacific
Ocean. The Metric is approximately 63 miles and also relatively flat with a
few rolling hills.
* The Imperial Century, which begins with a ride along the Rogue River,
through Squaw Valley, then down US Highway 101 over Capes Sebastian and
Farello, returning through the quaint coastal villages of Carpenterville and
Pistol River. This route is approximately 100 miles and has the most ambitious
climbing with over 4000 feet of total elevation gain.

Each route has a separate starting time. The Metric Century and the River
Route are timed so they will finish together. A nice family program would be
for the experienced rider to do the Metric Century and the lesser-experienced
rider do the River Route. They could meet up at the Historic Isaac Lee
Patterson Bridge and continue on together.

After the day’s riding is over, recharge your batteries at The Spin-Down
Spaghetti-Feed on Saturday night. Dinner starts at 6:30 or so. A raffle of
items donated by National sponsors and area merchants begins around 7:30 and
the dance music begins a little while after all the items are given away.
Riders are admitted free; non-riders can purchase tickets in advance or at the
door. Extra raffle tickets are also available.

The Spin-Down Spaghetti-Feed takes place and all the cycling events start and
finish at the Event Center on the Beach in Gold Beach, Oregon.

The weather on the Oregon Coast in September is usually wonderfully perfect
for cycling. Look for clear skies, high temperatures in the mid-60's, and
a northwest wind of around 15 mph along the shore while just a mile or so
inland expect very little wind and slightly warmer temperatures.

Entry fees are: $35.00 for the Quarter Century, $45.00 for the Metric Century,
$50.00 for the Imperial Century.

Entry fee discounts (add 'em up and save big!)
$5.00 discount for members of League of American Cyclists
$5.00 discount per entry for members of a group of four or more
$5.00 discount for one rider for a husband and wife team
$5.00 discount for early entry (before July 1)

So, for example, if two husband and wife teams all sign up together before
July 1 and they’re all Bike League members. Two would get $15.00 off of their
entry and two would get $20.00 off, a total $70.00 discount.

Entry fees include:
Food and drink at rest stops
Complimentary Souvenir water bottle
Spin-Down Spaghetti Feed and Dance Party
Support/Sweep vehicles (With pump, lubes, and tools for riders to use; but no
spare parts nor mechanic)
