The 100-Mile Coastal Challenge starts and finishes at the Curry County Fairgrounds in Gold Beach. Start time is 7:00 A.M.
Heading south out of Gold Beach you ride through some of the most photographed stretches of highway in the country, starting with the climb up Cape Sebastian, the highest point on Hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast. The descent down the south side of the Cape can be really fast so keep your hands close to your brakes. From there you ride through beautiful windswept Pistol River Valley and past some of the premier windsurfing beaches in the country. If the wind is doing it's normal thing, you'll have quite a strong tailwind through here. Then it's a series of climbs and descents through Samuel Boardman State Park all the way to Brookings. There are numerous pullouts and overlooks along this stretch. Take some time to enjoy the scenery.

The return to Gold Beach takes you on the original coastal highway through Carpenterville and Pistol River. There are two more rest stops along the way for you to replenish yourself before the final climb over Cape Sebastian. From there you ride down US Highway101 back to Gold Beach for a lunch buffet.
After lunch, the second half of this ride takes you up the South Bank of the Rogue River to Lobster Creek then back downstream along the North Bank, up into bucolic Cedar Valley, and to a rest stop at the old Ophir School. From there it's a nice cruise on the Old Coast Highway, across the historic Isaac Lee Patterson bridge, finishing again at the Event Center

This route, like all the routes of the Oregon Coast Cycling Festival, is designed to take advantage of the strong winds along the coast and the calmer conditions inland.
