Oregon Coast Cycling Festival
Festival Flyer August 20, 2004

With just a couple of weeks to go, details are fleshing out, here’s a couple
of them….

The latest estimates project that there may be as many as 750 riders for the
event. Not bad for the first year! Way to go everybody. The Oregon Coast
Cycling Festival is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and the
Curry Health Foundation and it looks like you are going to give both of them a
big boost!

I met with Tom Amsden the manager of the Event Center on the Beach/County
Fairgrounds (http://www.eventcenteronthebeach.com) and we were covering the
details on parking and all. Let’s just say that there’s plenty of parking as
long as we park smart. We’ll have the SAPS (Strategic Auto Placement
Specialists) there to direct you. Watch for them, they’re the big guys on
mountain bikes with day-glo helmets …they’ll be hard to miss.

Before and during registration, the “Doggie Diner” will be in the parking lot
serving up coffee and snacks for you. The “Doggie Diner” is a fundraising
venture for the Curry County Animal Shelter.

Also in the Fairgrounds parking lots are showers! You can take a quick rinse
after your ride and wash off the road dust. 100-mile riders can even stop and
take a shower during their ride! Why? I don’t know, but they can.

Details on Spin-Down Spaghetti-Feed and Dance Party are starting to come to
the surface. The menu for the evening will be a huge plate of pasta (I’ll bet
you guessed that from the name, didn’t ya?) with either a veggie sauce or a
meat sauce and salad and garlic bread. Nothing fancy, but good, healthy, and
filling after a day in the saddle. The Rotary Club will have a beer and wine
garden. I was talking with Mitch Kuljis – who owns the Oregon Coast Trading
Post, a small deli in town that has a great wine and beer selection – who is
involved in the Rotary and he’s bringing in a special assortment of Oregon
wines and micro-brews for the evening. YUM!

Because of the size of the crowd we’re extending the hours for dinner and
actually going to split it into two shifts. The early crowd will hit the food
line at 5:00; the second wave will be at 6:30. I’m not sure how we’re going to
organize that, but we will. The raffle will start at 8:00 and the band cranks
it up at 9:00.

Speaking of the band cranking it up, here’s the best news about the evening…we
landed the band we wanted! The Bobby Lindstrom Band will entertain the crowd
that evening. Bobby’s a real nice guy, an incredibly talented guitarist, and …
well … he ROCKS! Check out his website for more info, but suffice it to say
that the last time the Chain Whip and I saw him, they were putting up the
chairs and turning on the lights; we were still dancing and Bobby was still
playing. This is gonna be fun, and lots of it. http://www.bobbylindstrom.com

The list of discounted accommodations is finalized and on the website.
http://www.oregoncoastcyclingfestival.com/lodging.htm  The response has been
very good. I spoke with Donna at Secret Camp RV Park and she echoed what most
of the people are saying, “We really like the cyclists. They all seem to be
such nice friendly people.” Make sure you mention that you’re coming for the
Oregon Coast Cycling Festival to receive your discount.

The sponsors’ list has been finalized. Thanks to all of our generous friends,
the raffle prizes are fantastic. I encourage everybody to buy extra raffle
tickets. We’ll have the prize list updated on the website within a few days,
but just so you know…there’s some awesome prizes to be given away. You can buy
more raffle tickets during registration, packet pick-up and during dinner. Or
catch one of the Cog Set, they should have tickets for sale with them. Other
ticket outlets will be announced by next Wednesday.

Stay tuned, more details to come soon…

See you in September!
